New Home: Housing Issue for 16 more refugee families resolved in Kikinda

Sixteen refugee families have been given new apartments in Kikinda, and thus their housing issue has been permanently resolved. The apartments that are intended for rent and purchase are part of the fifth sub-project of the Regional Housing Program.

The Public Sector Project Management Unit, together with the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration and local self-government units, and with the help of donor funds, effectively implements the Regional Housing Program on the territory of the Republic of Serbia, all with the aim of permanent housing for the most vulnerable," said Jovan Lazarov, Head of the Office of the Director of the Public Sector Projects Implementation Unit.

The award ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Kikinda, Nikola Lukač, the representative of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia, Leoneta Pajer, the Second Secretary of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway, Stefan Sandstad, the Head of the Office of the Director of the Public Sector Projects Implementation Unit, Jovan Lazarov, and the Commissioner for Refugees and Migration, Vladimir Cucić.
The funds for the construction of the building were provided from the donor fund of the Regional Housing Program. The value of the works on the construction of the building with a total gross area of about 895 m2 is about 407,381 euros.

In Kikinda, as part of the Regional Housing Program, 25 refugee families were given a new home just a year ago.

The Regional Housing Programme is a joint multi-year programme of the Republic of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Croatia, which aims to provide durable housing solutions for the most vulnerable refugee families in the region.

It is implemented with the support of the OSCE, UNHCR and the Council of Europe Development Bank, and is financed by the European Union, which is also the largest donor, the United States, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Luxembourg, Spain, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
