In Novi Sad, the keys to 94 apartments, built as part of the Regional Housing Program, were handed over. The apartments are intended for refugee families from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.
The total gross area of the building is 6,408 m2, and the value of the works is 3,316,078 euros.
"Resolving the housing issue of the most vulnerable refugee families is a priority of the Regional Housing Program, and therefore the obligation of both the Public Sector Projects Implementation Unit, the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration, and local self-government units. So far, we have shown that we have excellent cooperation with Novi Sad, in June 2020 we moved in 276 families in Veternik, in August 2022 another 152 families in Futog, and today we will share the keys to 94 newly built apartments in Veternik. When it comes to the component of apartment construction, a total of 522 families are provided with housing in the territory of Novi Sad," said the director of the "Public Sector Projects Implementation Unit" Ltd. Belgrade, Dušan Kovačević.
In the coming period, we are expecting beneficiaries to move in in Vrbas, Arandjelovac, Pančevo, Pećinci and Ovča.
The ceremony was also attended by the Mayor of Novi Sad, Milan Đurić, the Ambassador of Germany to Serbia, Anke Konrad, the representative of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia, Niccolo Bertolini, the Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, Sarah Groen, the Deputy Representative of the High Commissioner Stephanie Krause, and the Commissioner for Refugees and Migration in the Republic of Serbia, Nataša Stanisavljević.
The Regional Housing Programme is a joint multi-year programme of the Republic of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and the Republic of Croatia, which aims to provide durable housing solutions for the most vulnerable refugee families in the region.
It is implemented with the support of the OSCE, UNHCR and the Council of Europe Development Bank, and is financed by the European Union, which is also the largest donor, the United States, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Luxembourg, Spain, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
