In Kraljevo assigned 10 apartments for refugee families

The keys of 10 apartments built within the ninth sub-project of the Regional Housing Program in the Republic of Serbia were handed over in Kraljevo. The apartments are intended for refugee families from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia for rent and purchase.

The event in Kraljevo was attended by the Mayor of Kraljevo, Predrag Terzić, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Serbia, Urs Schmidt, the representative of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia, Mirjana Maksimović, the Head of the Office of the Director of the Public Sector Projects Implementation Unit Ltd. Belgrade, Jovan Lazarov, and the Deputy Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, Svetlana Velimirović.

"It is a great pleasure to be part of the team that implements such a project and provides a permanent housing solution for the most vulnerable refugee families. I apologize on behalf of the Public Sector Projects Implementation for waiting so long for the realization of this project in Kraljevo because there were indeed a lot of problems, but we have come to the moment when you will enter your apartments and start a new life. The implementation of the Program was made possible with the help of donors and funds from the European Union, the Government of the Republic of Serbia, the support of our President and local self-government. I wish you a long and happy life in your new apartments," said the head of the Director's Office, Jovan Lazarov.

The total gross area of the building is 734 square meters, and the value of the works is 300,937 euros. Construction took about a year, and the occupancy permit was issued on August 29, 2022.

The Regional Housing Programme is a joint multi-year programme of the Republic of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and the Republic of Croatia, which aims to provide durable housing solutions for the most vulnerable refugee families in the region.

It is supported by the OSCE, UNHCR and the Council of Europe Development Bank, and is funded by the European Union, which is also the largest donor, the United States, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Luxembourg, Spain, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
