Director of the Public Sector Projects Implementation Unit Ltd. Belgrade, Dušan Kovačević, attended the 16th working meeting of the Commissioner for Refugees and Migration on Kopaonik, organized by the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia.
At the meeting, the results of the implementation of the Regional Housing Program in the Republic of Serbia were presented and future steps and activities related to the closure of the Regional Housing Program in 2023 were presented.
"Donor funds are available to the state until June 2023, which means that in the future we need to be even more efficient and faster in the implementation of the Program. We must be aware of the fact that today there are still those who live a life that is below any minimum, and sometimes human dignity. That is why it is the obligation of all of us, the participants of the Program, to be as efficient as possible in our work in order to restore human dignity to all families who have been waiting for decades for their home and a solution to the housing issue.
I would like to point out that a total of 526 housing units in 11 local self-government units are currently underway. Works are being carried out on the construction of 250 apartments in Ovča, 94 residential units in Veternik, 36 in Pančevo, 25 in Čačak, 25 in Zrenjanin, 20 in Vrnjačka Banja, 15 in Lučani, 14 in Vrbas, 12 in Pećinci, 10 in Šid and 25 in Šabac," said Dušan Kovačević, Acting General Menager of the Public Sector Projects Implementation Unit Ltd. Belgrade.
So far, 6,241 families have been provided with housing under the Regional Housing Program. In the coming period, user families will move in in Pančevo, Arandjelovac, Subotica, Vršac, Futog, Pećinci, Varvarin and Kraljevo.
All participants agreed that despite the numerous obstacles and challenges they faced during the implementation of the Program, despite the pandemic that slowed everything down, the implementation of the Program did not stop. The Regional Housing Program has proven that joint work and effort achieves a lot and by the end of the Program, all the most vulnerable refugee families in the territory of the Republic of Serbia will be provided with housing.
