Keys to apartments for 75 refugee families handed over to Niš

The keys to 75 apartments were handed over to refugee families from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia in Niš today, as part of the Regional Housing Program.

The ceremony of awarding the keys in Niš was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Government Commission for the Coordination of the Process of Permanent Integration of Refugees, Nikola Selaković.

The apartments were built as part of the fifth sub-project of the Regional Housing Program.

"You've come a long way, moving in search of better living conditions. You have chosen Serbia, and it is our responsibility and desire to provide support and assistance to all, the most vulnerable families," said the Director of the Public Sector Projects Implementation Unit Dušan Kovačević.

The total value of the works carried out is about 1.5 million euros.

The Regional Housing Programme is a joint multi-year programme of the Republic of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Croatia, which aims to provide durable housing solutions for the most vulnerable refugee families in the region.

It is implemented with the support of the OSCE, UNHCR and the Council of Europe Development Bank, and is financed by the European Union, which is also the largest donor, the United States, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Luxembourg, Spain, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
