Pančevo: Keys to 36 apartments handed over to refugee families

In Pančevo, the keys of 36 apartments were handed over to refugee families from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. The apartments were built as the part of the Regional Housing Program.

In the coming period, we are expecting 250 beneficiary families to move in in the Belgrade neighborhood of Ovča and 12 families in Pećinci.

"A lot of time has passed since you were forced to leave your homes and seek salvation in Serbia due to the war. You have chosen Pancevo, near Belgrade, as your refuge and today, after many years of wandering, I can proudly say that you are getting something of your own. Today, 36 families will permanently solve the housing issue and handing over these keys is the beginning of a safer life for all of you." said the director of the Public Sector Projects Implementation Unit, Dušan Kovačević.

The Regional Housing Programme is a joint multi-year programme of the Republic of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and the Republic of Croatia, which aims to provide durable housing solutions for the most vulnerable refugee families in the region.

It is implemented with the support of the OSCE, UNHCR and the Council of Europe Development Bank, and is financed by the European Union, which is also the largest donor, the United States, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Luxembourg, Spain, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
