The keys to 40 apartments were handed over in Vršac as part of the Regional Housing Program

In Vršac, the keys of 40 apartments, intended for refugee families from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, were handed over. The apartments were built as part of the eighth sub-project of the Regional Housing Program.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Vršac Dragana Mitrović, the representative of the European Commission Holger Schroeder, the Ambassador, the Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia H.E. Jan Brat, the Acting Head of the UNHCR Representative Office in Serbia Stefani Krause, the representative of the Council of Europe Development Bank Rainer Lovato, the Director of the Public Sector Projects Implementation Unit Ltd. Belgrade Dušan Kovačević and the Commissioner for Refugees and Migration Nataša Stanisavljević.

"We are nearing the completion of the implementation of the Regional Housing Program and I am really proud when I look at the numbers that show how many refugee families we have provided housing in the Republic of Serbia. And our story continues until all the most vulnerable families from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia are provided. We are expecting users to move in in Novi Sad, Subotica, Vrnjačka Banja and 11 other municipalities," said the Director of the Public Sector Projects Implementation Unit, Dušan Kovačević.

The total gross area of the building is 2,866 square meters, and the value of the works is 1,226,547 euros.

The Regional Housing Programme is a joint multi-year programme of the Republic of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and the Republic of Croatia, which aims to provide durable housing solutions for the most vulnerable refugee families in the region.

It is supported by the OSCE, UNHCR and the Council of Europe Development Bank, and is funded by the European Union, which is also the largest donor, the United States, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Luxembourg, Spain, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
