Representatives of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, the University of Kragujevac and the local municipality signed on May 20th, 2013 a contract regarding the financing and management of activities regarding the Sub-Project of construction and equipping of the Centers of excellence in Kragujevac.
The contract regarding the construction and the equipping of the Centers of excellence which will take up 11.500 m² was signed by the Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Prof. Dr. Zarko Obradovic, the rector of the University of Kragujeac Prof. Dr. Slobodan Arsenijevic and the mayor of Kragujevac Veroljub Stefanovic. The University of Kragujevac will according to this contract closer define the centers of excellence within the priority research field of biomedicine for the areas of stem cell research, functional research, molecular and cell biology, morphological research and other areas as necessary, for which the new building will be constructed according to the contract.
The number of centers of excellence and their exact purpose will be for laboratory space, scientific and research activities, research and development, mainly in line with the needs of the University of Kragujevac.
The Sub-Project of construction and equipping of the Centers of excellence in Kragujevac is worth a total of 20 million EUR and the realization of the project is expected from 2013 until 2015.
The construction and equipping of the Center for stem cell research is important for the wider community, as well as for the University of Kragujevac whose goal is to enter the field of regenerative medicine focused on stem cell research and their application in medical treatments and to include this area into its educational program.
